2014 was a fucked up year, and there weren’t many thing everyone agreed on. But everyone was pretty chill with Alvvays‘ breakout hit “Archie, Marry Me,” so much so that we all overlooked that weird double-V in their band name. The song was that good.
And it was also Ben Gibbard’s favorite tune of 2014.
Recently, the Death Cab For Cutie frontman busted out an emotional piano-ballad cover of it, stripping down the Toronto alt-rock band’s loudness and reducing it to one hell of a tearjerker. Gibbard performed “Archie, Marry Me” during a special fundraising set to benefit the artistic communities of Seattle, notes DIY Mag, and was recorded by the good people of radio station KEXP.
Meanwhile, Death Cab For Cutie’s eighth studio album, Kintsugi, their first without founding member Chris Walla, is out March 30.
