From Hooray For Earth to Skaters and Eli “Paperboy” Reed to Lucius, Boston’s lost a lot of great bands and artists to New York City over the past few years. But don’t count Keytar Bear among them, despite new video that shows Boston’s beloved bruin taking his trademark gig to Brooklyn.
The video below was taken a few days ago at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center subway stop by one-time Boston.com editor Matt Gross. The clip prompted the website to ask if Keytar Bear had moved to Brooklyn like everyone else.
But the Bear tells Vanyaland that nope, he’s just playing an out-of-town gig. Shake it up, change of pace, different scenery and people.
And despite some recent troubles here in Boston, he’ll still rep our town when he’s out in the wild, even in enemy sports-team territory. His Bruins jacket certainly didn’t stop one passing Brooklyn dude from giving the Bear some love.
“If I thew on a Knicks, Rangers, or Yankees jersey, then I’d be fucked up because Boston picked me up when I was down,” Keytar Bear tells Vanyaland. He’s also headed back to town: “They try to out price and bribe the Bear into staying, but it’s their nature to do so; this bear is Boston-bound.”
