Boston DJ Frank White continues to be one of the hardest hustlers in our city’s nightlife scene. With three gigs coming up this weekend, culminating in a Sunday night set at the Revere Hotel at the Boston Music Awards — where he’s once again nominated for DJ of the Year, in a varied group alongside Chris Ewen, Bianca Oblivion, Leah V, and Knife — White dropped a new chilled-out mix that’s a nice calm before the party storm.
His new mix, which you can stream and download via Soundcloud, mixes up r&B, soul, nu-disco, and pop, and even has a shout out (?!?!) from Michael McDonald near the 10-minute mark, right before the singer’s familiar 1982 jam “I Keep Forgetting” kicks in.
“Honestly I just wanted a break from the same ol’ hip-hop and reggae stuff I’m usually doing,” White tells Vanyaland, “and this is also one of many different styles of mixes I plan on putting out in the next few months.”
Catch White DJing tonight at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, then at Alibi Bar at the Liberty Hotel on Saturday before his BMA gig to close out the weekend.
