A beloved Boston drag queen is going to be working overtime on television next year.
Katya Zamolodchikova has been selected to appear on the seventh season of Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race. In the video below, Katya discusses her name origins, some good uses for mayonnaise, her first celebrity crush (spoiler alert: it’s Jean-Claude Van Damme), and what animal she’d rather be mauled by (we’re not spoiling that one).
Katya is a pretty prominent face in our city’s drag circuit, appearing everywhere from Oberon to T.T. The Bear’s Place to Estate. There’s also her famed party, Perestroika at Jacques Cabaret in Boston’s Theatre District, and it looks like the next one goes down a week from tonight.
“Everyone here at Jacques Cabaret would like to congratulate Miss Katya for being chosen to be on RuPauls Drag Race Season 7,” Jacques wrote on its Facebook page.
She’ll also be appearing at the Buttcracker’s 5th “analversery” party at Oberon on December 17. We don’t know what the cover charge is, but it’ll be worth it once she shows off one of her trademark “splits.”
UPDATE 8:44 p.m.: Katya will be at Heroes at T.T.’s this Saturday!
Fire up the video below, and get to know Boston’s next big celeb before she graces our television screens next year and shows Ru what our city is all about.
