U2 have announced their 2015 “iNNOCENCE & eXPERIENCE” tour today, and it includes two summer dates in Boston: July 10 and 11 at TD Garden. Tickets go on sale Monday, December 8 at 10 a.m., but Do617 already has some to give away.
The shows are part of a massive spring-to-fall tour of North America and Europe that sees the Irish rock band promoting its free-to-iTunes album, Songs of Innocence, which was just named 2014’s best album by Rolling Stone.
The band is playing multiple dates in several cities on this run, including four shows each in New York, London, and Los Angeles. The full list of appearances is down below. Many cities, like Toronto, Chicago, and us here in Boston, are getting two shows. But the tour, especial the North American leg, is very spread out.
In recent weeks there were rumors that U2 could be playing Fenway Park. Concerts at the Boston Red Sox home yard next summer include Foo Fighters (July 18 and 19) and James Taylor (August 6), and a public hearing notice to host live music at Fenway on August 7, 8, 9 and 10 was floating around the internet, adding to speculation that Bono and company could be suiting up in front of the Green Monster.
However, those dates that U2 are playing in Boston? The Yankees are in town.
Here’s some “vintage” U2 footage of the band performing at the Garden — when it was called the Fleet Center — for the Elevation tour back in 2001. Scan through the full tour itinerary after the video jump.
