The BBC is reporting that as many as 16 concertgoers have been killed today after a grate collapsed at a South Korean concert featuring all-girl K-pop group 4Minute. The show took place in Seongnam, south of Seoul, and new reports fear as many as 16 more have been injured.
Officials say “a ventilation grate collapsed and a group of concert-goers fell 10 metres (33ft) into an underground parking area,” writes the BBC. “The crowds had been watching an outdoor performance by the popular Korean girl band 4Minute and other bands. The victims climbed on top of the grate to get a better view of the show.”
There were about 700 people total in attendance, according to reports.
