She Kissed A Girl Before Katy Perry Did: Jill Sobule kicks off Milton Music Series this weekend

Last year Mission of Burma’s Roger Miller played a show in an unlikely space far off the radar of Boston’s club scene. It was in the former Milton town library in East Milton Square, in a venue and arts space that was three years earlier rechristened as the Milton Art Center.

Since its opening, the Milton Art Center has been a foundation of arts education to both children and adults — Miller’s live performance was aided by his own frottage art exhibition and workshop — in the town just south of Boston.

This weekend, it kicks off its first-ever fall concert series — a three-show slate that closes out 2014 — with a performance Jill Sobule, who had a ’90s hit, “I Kissed A Girl,” that predated Katy Perry’s lesbian dalliances by 13 years. The rest of the schedule includes Texas folk singer Sara Hickman on November 8 and one-time Jonatha Brooke collaborator Jennifer Kimball on December 6.

Here’s some music, bios, and ticket links from Milton Arts Center…

Jill Sobule: Sunday, October 5 @ 7:30 p.m.

After making a splash with her hit “I Kissed a Girl” in 1995, Jill Sobule has kept a spell on fans of literate and humorous songwriting ever since. Dottie’s Charms, her latest work, features Jill collaborating with famous writers to create a character using only an antique charm bracelet as a clue. This work grabbed the attention of The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and Harper’s Magazine.
