After a brief summer holiday, we’re proud to announce that Britpop Social Club returns to Abigail’s Restaurant in Cambridge this fall for a trio of special events.
Our Cool Britannia cocktail party kicks off once again on Wednesday, September 24 with resident DJs Michael V (yes, me) and Lady K, spinning all the lost Britpop classics and shoulda-been-a-hits within the hustle and bustle of Kendall Square. We then reel off a double shot of events for October and December in the name of two Britpop heavyweights, Suede and Pulp, respectively, all while big-screen visuals are provided by the Allston-based Shave Media.
And each night is a FREE as Bernard Butler after he walked out on Suede back in 1994.
Here’s the rundown.
September 24: A bit of a welcome back, the “Barriers” of our return to form, saying, “Hey, remember us? The best is yet to come!” Britpop classics and forgotten gems, all in the name of Louise Wener, Liam Gallagher, and the rest.
October 9: The eve of the 20th anniversary of Suede’s Dog Man Star. Maybe we’ll play the whole record at midnight, maybe we won’t (but we probably will). Heavy doses of Suede (or, heavier than usual, rather) and the usual b-side showcase. Come and argue over our Dog Man Star New Ordered, which ranks the record’s songs from best to worst and will be published that morning. How sad!
November 19: The official afterparty for the Pulp documentary screening at the Brattle, which is co-presented by Vanyaland. Not a night for “Common People” but for all of Jarvis’ brilliance, so make the jump from Harvard to Kendall and create your own karaoke in the Abigail’s booths It’s been a while since you sipped a cocktail to “Anorexic Beauty,” hasn’t it?
