‘Rapt’ Sure: Listen to the moody first single off Karen O’s upcoming solo record

Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O has been dabbling in a host of collaborations in recent years, but her upcoming debut solo record finds her squarely in the director’s chair. This morning, Ms. O dropped the first single off the hotly-anticipated Crush Songs, due out September 9 on Julian Casablancas label Cult.

The track, “Rapt,” is a stripped-down acoustic number that’s a far cry from upbeat YYY tracks like “Date With A Knife” or “Zero,” and feels more in line with her recent film soundtrack work. It especially has a vibe similar to “The Moon Song,” which she did for Spike Jonze’ 2013 movie Her.

“‘Rapt’ is the 2nd song written on this curated collection of crush songs from my personal library,” O writes. “This track is about someone who became a habit that was hard to kick. Thanks to Barney for making this little video happen.”

Check it out below, pre-order Crush Songs here, and peep the lyrics after the video.

“RAPT” lyrics

Bright as a star be the light
Strobing down on me,
Suddenly I was free,
Let me go on these
Show I can cough I can choke
On this kind of smoke
Off went the switch
Love is soft,
Love’s a fucking bitch
Do I really need
Another habit like you
I really need
Do you need me too
I believe it’s gonna leave me blue
Bright as a star be the light
Strobing down on me
Suddenly I was free
Let me go on these
Show I can cough I can choke
On this kind of smoke
On went the switch
Love is soft
Love’s a fucking bitch
Do I really need
Another habit like you?
I really need,
Do you need me too?
I believe
It’s gonna feel like new
