‘I started a band to kick your fucking head in’: Watch Billy Corgan’s speech last night at the APMAs

Last night in Cleveland, the city took a time-out from LeBronmania to host the Alternative Press Music Awards, and at some point in the night, Billy Corgan was given a lifetime achievement award. The longtime Smashing Pumkin was presented with the magazine’s first-ever Vanguard Award, and after about seven minutes of words from presenter CM Punk (a fellow Chicagoan and pro wrestling enthusiast), Corgan stepped up and delivered.

“I’m no legend,” he told the crowd. “Your favorite song is legend, your favorite band is legend, your favorite concert is legend. That’s what makes it work, you make it work.”

He spoke of the kids winning and the kids being contrarian and the kids the kids the kids, and our mind started drifting off to the “1979” video.

But then shit got real.

“I didn’t start a band to be anybody’s bitch, I started a band to kick your fucking head in,” Corgan added.

Whoa! No word on if he was looking right at James Iha when he said that.

Watch the video below; Corgan starts speaking at 7:18. Oh, and Billy, thank you for Siamese Dream.
