It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from New York indie-pop outfit the Drums, but apparently they have some news for us. The band announced a fall tour slate that hits Brighton Music Hall in Allston on September 22, and dropped a mysterious video clip via Youtube. Feel compelled to scan both down south.
Few things make us think of summer quite like Johnny Pierce’s sun-kissed pop projects, and we’ve been itching for new Drums tunes since the 2011 release of Portamento. The new record will apparently be called Magic Mountain, with a first single of the same name, due out on Frenchkiss Records sometime later this year.
Beyond that, the 1:17 teaser video doesn’t give us too much info — it’s most just ambient electronic sounds over a series of black and white images. Though the Drums leaned more towards guitar-led indie-pop, Pierce is no stranger to electronic experimentation — we first fell in <3 with him via forgotten mid-2000s electro-pop wonderkids Elkland.
