More than just a side project, Marissa Paternoster has been performing with a rotating cast of musicians as Noun for the past ten years. It’s a project that dates back further than the band she’s perhaps known best for, New Jersey-based Don Giovanni Records darlings Screaming Females.
Noun makes its way to Boston this Sunday for an afternoon matinee show at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston, and since matinees in this town are about as rare as seeing a polydactyl kitten driving a Camry the wrong way down the Mass Pike at midnight, we wanted to show it some love.
Plus, Noun’s 2010 EP Holy Hell, featuring two ripping garage rock tracks sandwiched around a yearning atmospheric ballad, makes pretty good use of its seven-minutes-and-change. Listen to it below.
As an added bonus, the Sunday Funday bill is rounded out by fellow Jersey project Modern Hut and two Boston rock frontmen-gone-solo (don’t worry, it’s not permanent): Toyota Fjord, the wonderfully-named project from Bent Shapes’ Ben Potrykus, and Chris Keene of Mean Creek performing as Dream Generation.
Go ahead, listen to EVERYTHING below.
Oh and head’s up — there will be some vegetarian BBQing out back behind O’Brien’s, and it’s an 18-plus show, so go ahead and bring that younger sibling of yours who’s actually older than you can believe.
