Last month punk icon Exene Cervenka of X made global headlines for suggesting that the May 23 California mass shooting that killed six people and wounded 13 others was a government hoax designed to force stricter gun control laws on its citizens. Cervenka tweeted out YouTube videos claiming that the University of California Santa Barbara massacre was another “false flag,” and claimed footage of the killing spree and news coverage used green screen and other theatrical techniques to stir up anti-gun sentiment in the United States.
She then apologized, clarified her statements via the X official Facebook page, and her Twitter was deleted.
At that point, we wondered if we’d hear from her enduring Los Angeles band ever again. X bandmate John Doe is playing Brighton Music Hall tomorrow night without much controversy.
But now the West Coast punk band has announced a summer tour that will come to the Sinclair in Harvard Square on August 26. [UPDATE 1:39 p.m.: Vanyaland’s Michael Christopher reached out to X’s publicist and was told Cervenka is not doing any interviews for the upcoming tour.]
