Lately we’ve spent a lot of time sitting around debating the 2014 Song of the Summer. Is it crossover mega-hit “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX? How about the house music-inspired “Hideaway” by Kiesza? Or maybe it’s the irresistible synth-cheer anthem “Boom Clap” by the aforementioned Ms. XCX, off the Fault In Our Stars soundtrack?
While the jury is still out, Manchester duo the Ting Tings have gone and punk’d us all by this week releasing the song of last summer.
Well played.
Even though you probably didn’t ask for it, the late-2000s indie rock punchline are back with new a song called “Wrong Club,” and it sounds like something left over from Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories session. Pretty catchy though, and much more listenable than anything off 2012’s misguided Sounds From Nowheresville.
Pre-order “Wrong Club” from iTunes in advance of its late-July release.
Or don’t.
