Last year it was “I Love It” for Icona Pop. This year it’s “Fancy” with Iggy Azalea. But after a double-dose of awesome alongside other artists, Charli XCX is ready for her own closeup. After dropping a sizzling debut LP last year that featured mega-jam “You (Ha Ha Ha),” 21-year-old British songwriter and singer born Charlotte Emma Aitchison is finally on the verge of the superstardom we’ve been predicting since before this website was born.
Now with the video for “Boom Clap” dropping today, that time is now.
The infectious track is featured on the soundtrack for The Fault In Our Stars, a film based on a 2012 young adult novel by John Green. It’s about two teenagers named Hazel and Gus who fall in love while attending a cancer support group; according to reports, Hazel needs an oxygen tank, while Gus uses a prosthetic leg. The soundtrack also features Ed Sheeran, Birdy, Jake Bugg, Grouplove, Kodaline, M83 and others. The Fault In Our Stars hits theatres this weekend.
But enough about that.
In the “Boom Clap” clip — say that three times fast — scenes from the film and cut with shots of Ms. XCX rolling around Amsterdam, singing along to the most memorable hook since… well, “Fancy.” In addition to the soundtrack, “Boom Clap” will also be be featured on Charli’s sophomore record due out later this year.
We can hardly wait. Watch “Boom Clap” below.
