The Realist Thing: Did Mike Patton just tweet-tease a new Faith No More album?

Speakeasy PR

We’re exactly three weeks away from the 25th anniversary of Faith No More’s breakout album The Real Thing, so naturally we have some movement from the band itself. The influential Bay Area rock band, which reunited five years ago, launched a twitter account yesterday with a fairly cryptic — and no doubt exciting — message:

“Hey! Stay tuned for more Tweets from Twats!!! The reunion thing was fun, but now it’s time to get a little creative.”

The message was accompanied by a black-and-white Mike Patton selfie.

Just what “creative” means is anyone’s guess, but since they noted that “the reunion thing was fun,” perhaps something else in order. Like a new Faith No More record, which would be the band’s first since 1997’s Album of the Year.

It’s all perfect timing, really. Patton and his six-octave, half-note range was just named the world’s most technical vocalist by New York’s Vintage Vinyl News, and June 20’s 25th anniversary of The Real Thing will produce essay after essay about how we all first kissed a girl (or boy) to “Underwater Love” back in 1989.

Bring it on, whatever it may be.

What the world needs now is Faith No More.
