Summer songs are like pornography, kinda, in that you don’t know what they are until you hear them. So as we shake off yesterday’s unseasonably cold weather and look outside to think it might actually be nice out, our attention is suddenly caught by a new tune from Boston’s Dan Webb and the Spiders, the guitar-rocking “The Neighborhood.”
We’re told it’s named after the diner in Somerville’s Union Square, which makes it all the more perfect.
Webb’s crew just returned from Germany last month, where they were hyping two new records: Now It Can Be Told and the acoustic Eine Kleine Akustischmuzik. Now they’re home, and will preview the new material for us with a pair of upcoming gigs, their first since October of last year: June 23 at ZuZu in Cambridge for the Dazies EP release party, and then July 18 at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston.
It’ll also be the Boston area’s first look at Dan Webb and the Spiders’ new lineup, which now features Webb on vocals/guitar, Chris Amaral on guitar/vocals, Marc Valois on bass/vocals, and drummer Stephen Benson.
