Picking up where she left off late last year with her rendition of “Jolene,” Boston’s Ruby Rose Fox has once again given us an intimate look inside her musical soul. Last night she released a new track, “Raggedy Ann,” via YouTube, and it’s a nice primer for a pair of live performances in Cambridge later this week to celebrate (or protest against) Valentine’s Day. The clip was recorded and edited by Roger Metcalf.
This Friday, Ruby Rose Fox joins Eli “Paperboy” Reed and the Soulelujah DJs for a heart-warming night of soul at the Sinclair in Harvard Square. It’s an evening that also serves to help us officially launch VanyaRadio, and we’ll be on-site sending out Valentines in the shape of sunglasses: The first 100 folks through the door will receive a FREE pair of “Vanyaland: The New Alternative” shades. They’ll come in handy to shield your eyes from crying in case your lover fails to come through.
More to come on this gig later in the week, when we sit down with Reed and catch up on what the Brookline native’s been up to the past few years. In the meantime, let the Rose saturate your headspace.
Ruby will also be throwing down some solo tunes the night before at the Plough & Stars with Doug Orey of the Field Effect, Jen Jay of Velah, and Thom Valenti of Mount Peru.
