Kiwi Crunk: Watch Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys cover Lorde’s ‘Royals’ with a video budget of 59 cents worth of bananas

It’s amazing what you can do these days with 59 cents worth of bananas. If you’re Boston steamcrunk kingpins Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys, you can barter that sweet stash for some music video action and soundtrack it with your cover of Lorde’s forever-coverable hit “Royals.”

But what does Sickert have that sad clowns, Autotune rapper T-Pain, and a million YouTubers (give or take) do not? We’ll let him explain.

“This cover was performed with LOVE and TENTACLES!,” reads a statement on their Bandcamp page, where you can download the track without the visual aids. “We poured one part SteamCRUNK, a dribble of distortion, two parts cat piano, a daub of dirt-fi, and put that in a shaker with Walter’s brain grapes and PRESTO!”

If this shit happened before the Grammy’s, the Broken Toys might have livened things up a bit. There’s always next year; we’re sure Ella Yelich-O’Connor and Sickert’s band of musical misfits are on the same “Team.”
