It was a pretty good weekend for Kingsley Flood. First, the folk-punk band wrapped up a string of dates opening for white-hot indie act Lucius, then on Sunday night, their February record Battles was named Album/EP of the Year in the 2013 Boston Music Awards.
Not a bad way to end a year that also saw the Floods release a very moving video (for July’s “Sigh A While”), perform at Newport Folk (and seemingly everywhere else), and garner national press accolades from the likes of NPR, Esquire, and Paste.
On the last date of that Lucius swing (which also hit Northampton, Portland (ME), Philadelphia, and New York) Kingsley Flood were found joining their Brooklyn friends down on the floor of a sold-out Bowery Ballroom. Lucius broke into a stripped down rendition of John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over,)” which was made all the more notable since was December 7, the eve of the anniversary of the singer’s death.
In the video above, Lucius get it started, then are joined by Kingsley mid-way through for one big sing-along with the crowd.
Looks like a good time.
Also, if you fancy photos, Brooklyn Vegan posted a nice-lookin’ gallery from the same show. Dig in.
