Somewhere in the haze of alcohol, live performances (did you catch My Dick?), and giant inverted Christmas trees hanging from the ceiling of the Liberty Hotel, some Boston Music Awards hardware was actually handed out last night. And from immediate reports, the voting public and the organization’s academy got things right (except us, of course).
Sexxxed-up post-R&B party-starters Bad Rabbits capped off a spectacular 2013 by taking home Artist of the Year acclaim, Americana bandits Kingsley Flood scored a well-deserving Album/EP of the Year nod for February’s Battles, and powerhouse guitar-rock quartet the Field Effect proved what we at WFNX.com knew since last fall: “Ogunquit ME” is the Song of the Year no matter what year it is.
After repping Boston well over the past year (from radio play to extended tours to big-ticket festivals like Boston Calling and Newport Folk), all three acts should break into national awareness in 2014.
In case you missed it — or are just waking up, like we are — here is the full list of winner’s at last night’s BMAs, with some A/V notes added in:
