The Drive soundtrack is already more than two years old, and yet still remains the freshest sound to emerge out of Hollywood in pretty much forever. Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx’s “Nightcall” set the tone for not only the soundtrack but the film itself, opening up a Los Angeles set to the synthpop beat of College, the Chromatics, Desire, and Cliff Martinez.
Now UK trio London Grammar have taken the track and breathed an extended life into it, unveiling it as a piano ballad as Hannah Reid replaces the computerized voice that hovers over LA like an unpaid debt.
We’re pretty much suckers for anything related to Drive — can’t ya tell? — but this is hauntingly beautiful, with or without the film’s context. It’s warmth is very inviting.
