Alison’s Weekenders Playlist: Lucius, Tessa Rose Jackson, Gemini Club, Go Periscope +++

Sadly I’ve found new music tastings a little bland lately. In an effort to curate playlists with songs you’ve never heard of but want to listen to, a fall season packed with big-name album releases has left me updating Weekenders sporadically, and for that I am truly sorry. So in an effort to redeem myself, this Friday’s playlist serves up not 20 but 30 buzz worthy jams that will surely have something to offer every music lover.

If you aren’t listening to Lucius yet, get it together. “Turn It Around” plays off that ’60s pop sound that’s all the rage right now without being too precious. Pop enthusiasts should also poke around in Go Periscope’s “Awake,” a repeat-worthy confection of heavy drums and lighter synths. Plus “Now I See” by Tessa Rose Jackson — get on it now, soon you’ll hate it when it starts assaulting you every 90 seconds in Google’s latest Nexus 5 commercial.

If you’re looking to get in a spooky mood for Halloween weekend, give Darkside’s “Paper Trails a spin. With it’s creepy-crawling beat and smoldering stalker-like vocals it feels like you were dropped in the middle of nowhere in New Orleans whilst something witchy this way comes (American Horror Story, anyone?)

Some folksy, foot-stomping fun off the latest The Devil Makes Three album and Mean Black Mamba’s self-titled single keeps you down south while lightening things up a bit. Finishing it out with some awesomeness from the hip hop world, Flo Rida gets his hit-making hands on Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and calls it “How I Feel,” and Tiara Thomas says what we’re all thinking with a big Fuck You to student loan giant Sallie Mae.

Sorry my payment’s late this month, Sallie. I got bills. And better things to do, like making this playlist.
