Montreal is known for many things, but it’s also a hotbed for brash garage punk that draws from both of the city’s vibrant cultures. One of the best bands to emerge out of town since 2006 has been Sonic Avenues, and the quartet just announced an extended run of tour dates that take then across the border and down all the way to sunny Florida. Call it the Habs-to-Panthers tour, but without the depression of competitive downgrading.
Luckily, amazingly, whatever-ingly, the Aves have a stop in Boston along the way, dropping by O’Brien’s Pub in Allston on October 17 to tear shit up with Atlantic Thrills, the Legendary Rockin’ Prophets, and the Little Richards.
We’ve got the dates below, as well as a sampling of two ace tunes: first, “Sixteen Years,” which was an older song recorded in Sorel a few years ago but just released back in March, and the title track off the Television Youth full-length from January of last year. Both tracks are pretty killer (“Sixteen Years” was recorded during the LP sessions) and we hear the live show is even better.
Don’t sleep, Boston.
