When I was 16, all I wanted was a ride to the South Shore Mall and a way to get out of Mr. Athanasian’s math class. But when you’re Lorde, things are a bit different.
The hype machine is in overdrive for the teenage pop prodigy even though we’re still a few weeks away from the September 30 release of her debut LP, Pure Heroine (LAVA/Republic Records). And now Lorde has something else to make the rounds, in addition to two sterling singles in “Royals” and “Tennis Court”: A cover of Kanye West’s “Hold My Liquor.”
Lorde threw down this two-minute blast last week at iHeart Radio’s New Zealand concert, and needless to say, the crowd was pretty into it. The track comes from ‘Ye’s 2013 record Yeezus, so let us be the first to crown Lorde “She-zus.”
We’re still on the lookout for Lorde to come to New England; in the meantime she has a limited run of North American dates later this month to celebrate the Pure Heroin release.
