Last week everybody was all about Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” which took on a hauntingly beautiful quality when slowed down 25 percent. Now the re-born 1973 country classic has been given a Boston re-boot as well as Ruby Rose Fox recently teamed with Endation’s Anthony Conley for their own soulful take. The clip above, which has scored more than a thousand plays in the past week, was captured by videographer Roger Metcalf.
While “Jolene” is a bit somber, Ruby Rose Fox is re-energized on her rabble-rousing new single, “Neighborhood Watch.” Its release party arrives this Saturday at Great Scott, when Ruby Rose Fox hits the stage with Aloud, 2013 Rock and Roll Rumble winners Eddie Japan, and Brooklyn jangle-pop band Raccoon Fighter, who we aren’t sure if are people who actually fight raccoons or are just armed and aggressive critters running along fences at midnight while defending the moral code of the procyon lotor.
Regardless, the Raccoons will play nice with the Foxes this weekend.
In the meantime, check out “Neighborhood Watch” down below, and head’s up — the first 50 people to hit Ruby’s merch table Saturday night will score the single’s free download card.
And this is Raccoon Fighter, by the way. Cool tune. Get ur mask on.
