Stream the Boston Fuzzstival mix before Saturday’s 13-band fest at the Middle East

First there was the dirty dozen. Now there’s the fuzzy baker’s dozen.

The inaugural Boston Fuzzstival crashes down at the Middle East this weekend, and the whole thing has grown so large, it’s taking up not only two stages, but two floors to fit it all in. That’s a lotta fuzz.

To celebrate the occasion, and get you primed on the bands taking part, Vanyaland has compiled a mix that showcases the sounds filling the sweet Central Square air this Saturday afternoon and evening. All the bands are repped in the mix, except for Ghost Modern, a Squall/Autochrome project so new they don’t even have anything recorded yet.

Check out the mix below, which is also streaming daily on the Vanyaland homepage. The bands are tracked alphabetically and don’t represent any order of performance.

The Fuzzstival kicks off Saturday afternoon at 2pm for a FREE and ALL AGES session between that runs until 5pm, featuring performances by Boogie Boy Metal Mouth, Winter, Underwater Bear Ballet, the TeleVibes, and the aforementioned Ghost Modern.

After an intermission where I will no doubt be stuffing my face with chicken shawarma and whipped garlic (<3 u Mid East restaurant), things go underground at 6pm for the main event, a full slate of noisy psych and punk sounds from Ghost Box Orchestra, the New Highway Hymnal (Vanya Records’ own), CreaturoS, Guillermo Sexo (pictured above), Nice Guys, the Fagettes, Doze, and Moniker. There will also be visual art, projections, and between-band DJ sets by the WZBC Flyweight crew.

Tickets to the downstairs portion of the Fuzzstival are $10 and are on sale now. It’s an 18-plus affair.
