After Boston’s downright rude heatwave last week, Weekenders is taking a beat to recharge for the final push of summer. Plug in, turn on, and vibe out with a selection of songs that feel like they might be fighting a little heat stroke of their own.
TIME FOR T have written a love letter to the Doors with “Tornado,” and Weezer fans will rejoice at FIDLAR’s self-deprecating soliloquy “Awkward.” Arcade Fire’s high-pitched half-sister The Naked and Famous are back with the new single “Hearts Like Ours,” a synthy little thing that slowly builds into a would-be anthem with the help of a bolstering guitar riff.
The Lumineers released “Darlene” this week, a sleepy new single that will join the re-release of their self-titled phenomenon next month. So, yeah, that happened.

But one of the biggest highlights has to be “Break It Down” from Brooklyn-based Crazypills (side rant: this shit is getting ridiculous, is every band just saying they’re from Brooklyn now? I gave up after the 17th band listed something like “Originally from Wichita, based in Williamsburg.” I’m from Boston, but am currently based on the moon, in case you were wondering). A Cramps-meets-Carl Perkins update on a classic surf beat that throws a fistful of sand in your face, screams “punk rock!” and cruises off into the sunset. Just like I shall do right… about… now.
