Surf’s up in Brooklyn. After swimming through some recent rough waters that included a major lineup overhaul and an cloudy future, New York surf-psych trio THE VANDELLES are back in action, just in time for summer, with sophomore LP Strange Girls Don’t Cry out July 9 via Dallas-based Moon Sounds Records.

The band, which still includes its backbone of Jasno Swarez on guitar/vocals and Honey Valentine on drums — much to the relief of the Facebook group I would turn lesbian for The Vandelles’ drummer, no doubt — is heading out in early July for some random shows leading up to the new record’s release. The title track is first offering off the new LP, and features a bit more of a pop lean, stripping away the noise elements that sometimes suffocated previous material; Instead, “Strange Girls (Don’t Cry)” allows the breezy melody to giddy-up while the guitar-pop and organ hooks bask in all the glory.

It’s got good posi vibes, and it’s summery as fuck.

Check out the dates, as well as the pre-order via the Moon Sounds bandcamp, and while we’re dancing it up with the Vandelles, be sure to reflect back on their killer music video for 2010 ripper track “Lovely Weather.”
