Listen to ‘Bagboy,’ the first new Pixies song in nine years (video included)

What’s going on in the land of THE PIXIES? Two weeks ago bassist Kim Deal left the band, and today a new song, the Massachusetts indie rock legends’ first in nine years, suddenly surfaced for free download (complete with new video). Not to get all Semisonic on everyone, but maybe it’s true: “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

Or maybe Deal simply wasn’t too happy with the new material, including this stodgy “Bagboy,” a mid-tempo track finished up back in October that features some older music with spoken word lyrics from Black Francis, which he says were written recently in a coffee shop in Cambridge.

“The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body,'” Francis says in a statement. “The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued.”

“Bagboy” is available for free download via the widget below, but also peep the video above, which at one point shows a young man bathing in a tub filled with Fruit Loops, which is pretty much the most ’90s thing ever.

After the Pixies, of course.
