The Ghouls sprint through scrappy new tune ‘Pocket of Gold’

The Ghouls acquired a pickup-encrusted crown in May, and now they have a nice pocketful of gold to match. The Lowell band — and 2024 Rock and Roll Rumble winners — released their new song “Pocket of Gold” last week (September 20), and it’s practically unfathomable to think that this is The Ghouls’ second-ever single. Like a sprint through early aughts rock, the song ricochets with a scrappiness that’s best described as The Strokes on speed, and lead singer and guitarist George Danahy delivers the line “Nothing can be bought / Babe, give me a shot” with perfect frontman panache. Maybe they should have named this one “Earbuds of Gold.” Tune in below.
