Jane’s Addiction show in Boston ends abruptly after on-stage scuffle

While we’ve all been busy thinking about potential on-stage fisticuffs between Gallagher brothers, another reunited rock band threw hands last night (September 13) in Boston.

The Jane’s Addiction show at Leader Bank Pavilion in the Seaport came to an abrupt halt after vocalist Perry Farrell allegedly threw a punch and instigated a fight with guitarist Dave Navarro. The incident was recorded by several people in attendance, including Sean R, who posted the video below to YouTube.

Tensions reportedly rose throughout the night, starting during “Mountain Song,” the ninth song of the set, and spilling into “Three Days.” It boiled over during the next song, “Ocean Size,” when Farrell began grunting and shouting expletives. He walked over to Navarro, and appeared to aggressively shoulder-bump him before taking a swing. In the video below, Navarro put his hands up and appears to distance himself before crew staff and bassist Eric Avery jumped in to avoid further confrontation.

As Farrell was pulled off stage, the rest of the band followed suit, with Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins — who we interviewed for our latest 617 Q&A — taking bows and thanking the audience.

Many are wondering if this will be the final Jane’s Addition show with this classic lineup. Incidents were reported a few days ago during a disastrous gig in New York City, with Farrell reportedly acting agitated and unsteady, forgetting the words to the band’s hits and mumbling and ranting before walking off early. A second show in NYC went off without incident, apparently.

Jane’s Addition still has roughly 20 dates left in this reunion tour, a co-headlining tour with Love And Rockets, including a show Sunday at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Connecticut.

Stay tuned…

Update 09.15: Sunday’s show in Bridgeport has been cancelled.

Update 09.16: And Jane’s Addiction has cancelled the remainder of the tour, making “the difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” according to a post on Instagram.
