We’re a few days into the most casual of seasons, and with it comes an urge to just lay out in a calm field and reminisce on the cross-section of loves past and present. Anglo-French avant-garde electronic-pop artist Julia-Sophie, she of one-time garage rock hopefuls Little Fish, has provided the soundtrack in “telephone,” a dreamy yearner of inspired affection that sprawls inward and outward and captures a panoramic snapshot of the moments that lift us up and bring us back down.

“In ‘telephone’ I wanted to communicate that feeling of true wistful love, the feeling you have when you find that one person who makes you feel more alive than anyone else ever has,” Julia-Sophie says. “It feels magical. But then, as always for me, real life comes in and fucks it all up. Once again, I find myself trapped by the stories of my past, the ones I spend my life trying to run from, only to find myself alone.”

Released today (June 25) to the streams and a seven-minute, one-shot music video, which is viewable below, “telephone” is the second single from the artist’s debut album forgive too slow, set for release July 26 on Ba Da Bing Records.
