Porter Robinson, SMILE! 😀 World Tour, August 29 and 30
We often talk about enduring bands as rock and roll survivalists, skillfully weathering trends and scenes to stay relevant as their contemporaries fade away to time. If there is a parallel scope for electronic music, then Porter Robinson is right there near the top, as the Atlanta-born DJ, record producer, and singer-songwriter has remained in-demand and notable long after the EDM craze wore off with last night’s pills. With new third album SMILE! set for release in July via Mom+Pop, Robinson has unveiled his “first-ever” world tour, and the SMILE! 😀 run (yeah, that’s what it’s called) kicks off its North American leg with a pair of summer’s-over parties at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on August 29 and 30. With nearly 70 shows on the books, Robinson promises a new live production and career-spenning setlist, which is sure to include a pair of new 2024 tracks, “Cheerleader” and “Knock Yourself Out XD.” Tickets go on sale Friday (May 3) at 10 a.m. local time.
