Times have been rough for Cambridge’s Central Square the past few years.
After seeing the end of T.T. The Bear’s Place, Out of the Blue Too, Weirdo Records, and the EMF Building, another forum for live music and the creative arts will shutter: Club Bohemia, the venue underneath The Cantab Lounge at 738 Massachusetts Ave. and long a stage for new and underground bands, will permanently close on September 2.
“We Regret To Inform You That Club Bohemia Shuts Down in September, final show is September 1, 2018,” a statement on the website says. Not much more information, beyond that, is known. The Cantab will remain open.
The last three shows will be on August 23 (Off Brand, Tree Torn, BEDTIMEMAGIC, Totaled), August 25 (Stop Calling Me Frank, Hi-End, The Legendary Cazbats, The Stigmatics), and September 1 (Mad Painter).
A post to Club Bohemia’s Facebook page today also shares the news, and suggests sending letters and emails to the Cantab manager to start a petition urging the room remains as its current use.
More to come…
