Before John Tavares signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, we long held the belief that The Dirty Nil were the best thing to happen to Ontario in quite some time. They were a Jose Bautista bat flip of a rock and roll band, bold and brash with a flair for rock drama and the ability to deliver when it mattered.
The guitar-rock trio has ripped through more than 350 shows over the past three years, but now comes another first for the 2017 Juno Award “Breakthrough Group of the Year” winners: Their first headlining United States tour. This fall run starts October 25 in Detroit and wraps December 1 in Toronto, and a week before the finale, on November 24, The Dirty Nil play The Middle East in Cambridge.
On this run The Dirty Nil will be showing off forthcoming new album Master Volume, which hits September 14 on Dine Alone Records. Last week the dudes dropped the second single from the LP, the weathered, rigorous “Pain of Infinity,” a song that echoes the sound of a band that wears its heart on its collective sleeve. You can hear the truth in every second, and while plenty of music writers will go gray trying to break down this style, we’ll just serve it up as pure rock and roll abandon.
It’s what we all need right about now. Fire up “Pain of Infinity” below, and scan through all The Dirty Nil’s fall dates after the jump.
