Over the past few years Courtney Swain has cemented her place in Boston music as frontwoman of the genre-defying Bent Knee. But the Providence-based, Japan-raised multi-intrumentalist and performer has quietly built up an equally impressive solo output.
With Bent Knee — fresh off their late 2016 tour with Dillinger Escape Plan — laying low for the cold New England months, Swain has released a live-performance video for her song “Moon Stalker.”
“Bent Knee is in hibernation for the winter,” Swain tells Vanyaland, “so I’ve been working on some of my own songs with the extra time.”
This commanding performance of “Moon Stalker” was recorded live at Big Nice Studio in Lincoln, Rhode Island, with a piano-paying Swain backed on strings by Abby Swidler, Abigale Reisman, Anna Stromer, and Valerie Thompson. The track was produced and mixed by Vince Welch, and engineered by Big Nice’s Bradford Krieger.
