The Cure are coming back to America.
A day after Robert Smith unveiled his very own remix of RIDE’s “Vapour Trail,” it was revealed this morning that his iconic British rock band will tour North America next year. Only three dates have been announced so far: May 22 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles; June 10 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago; and June 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Public on-sale for the trio of shows begins this Friday, and pre-sale info is included in the Cure’s news release below.
The remaining 22 dates will be revealed in January. Fingers crossed for Boston, Bob.
Scottish band the Twilight Sad will be joining the Cure on the tour, and earlier this year Smith covered their song “There’s a Girl In The Corner.”
If the Cure do come back to Boston, chances are it’ll be at a larger venue than the one they played 35 years ago in Packard’s Corner in Allston. Watch a vintage 1980 clip from Boston University’s Underground in Allston at the bottom of this post.
