Pegi Young & the Survivors’ gig last night at Johnny D’s in Somerville was billed like any other show. But shortly after doors, rumors spread from the Davis Square venue that rock legend — and Pegi husband — Neil Young was going to not only be in the house, but also get up on stage and play along.
Turns out he did more than that, as this Patrick Coman video claims Young debuted a new track last night, and you can check it out in the clip above.
Update: Rolling Stone has since followed up, and the new Young track is called “Drive My Car.” It was debuted toward the end of the band’s set, which otherwise was all Pegi Young material. For one night, at least, Young was in the background.
Johnny D’s is a restaurant and lounge that holds roughly 300 people, a far cry from a normal Neil Young gig; last time he was in town, he played the TD Garden. Here’s a look at the “mob scene” outside the club, captured by the club’s booking agent Randi Millman.
Pretty cool.
And another shot from Millman, this time of the stage…
