Three cheers on this snowy Friday in Boston for Vanyaland contributor Hilary Hughes, who was named music editor of New York’s Village Voice.
In June 2013, Hughes penned a fantastic piece for us about the decision to leave Boston for New York, and today, we couldn’t be happier for her. The Massachusetts native has been living in Brooklyn contributing to Fuse, Rolling Stone, and others while delivering Vanyaland pieces on Newport Folk, the Tsarnaev cover of Rolling Stone, and the Middle East land developments in Cambridge.
Read Hughes’ contributions to Vanyaland here, and don’t miss our combined SXSBed morning-after coverage of SXSW from last March.
And here’s word from the Voice:
The Village Voice is pleased to announce that Hilary Hughes will join the staff as music editor on February 2.
Hughes comes to the Voice from Fuse, where she edited music news and contributed to the television channel’s pop culture and festival coverage. Her writing has appeared in Esquire, Rolling Stone, Elle, USA Today, Billboard, the Boston Globe, and DigBoston, where she was arts and entertainment editor from 2010 to 2012.
Hughes has been contributing to the Voice’s music section and thoroughly enjoys hanging out in the city’s beloved music dives, bowing at the altar of the Apollo Theater and watching Saturday Night Live on the weekly’s behalf. She lives in Brooklyn.
