If there’s one thing we’ve sensed British indie has lost in recent years, it’s a sense of sonic euphoria. Those of us old enough to race to the import bins and magazine racks to find our favorite new bands — and judged so through mere seconds of hearing new music, because when you know, you know — have discovered a fairly barren England of late. While the likes of The Last Dinner Party have added a much needed sizzle to the scene, and the alt-pop, post-punk, and electro aisles shine brighter than ever, it feels like the guitar-rock lads have gone relatively stiff as ambitions seem to have run dry.
Corella should change all that.
The Manchester indie band have unleashed a driving new single today (October 6) called “Don’t Stop Me,” and its inspired title suggests few could. The propulsive belter explodes out of the speakers straight away, quickly fueled even louder by a memorable sing-it-forward chorus, and it all takes us right back to that hopeful and exciting feeling of yesterday.
The soaring “Don’t Stop Me” is the proper follow-up to last year’s breakout Today, Tomorrow, Whenever EP, and its anthemic quality suggests the best is yet to come.
“‘Don’t Stop Me’ is all about escaping from your normal lifestyle and chasing what you’re really passionate about,” Corella declare. “Being a young person in the UK these days can be a real challenge. It’s easy to fall into a dark place, especially when life feels tough on both an individual and societal level, and it can seem like everything and everyone is working against you and your dreams.”
They add: “We wanted to remind people that even in the darkest moments, there will always be something to make you smile, and to our fans we wanted that something to be this song. When we play this live, we want to see them lose themselves in the music, even for just a moment; to forget all of life’s problems and stresses, as it’s important to immerse yourself in what gives you that buzz.”
