According to their new song “Fortune Teller,” Gold Hoax know a thing or two about having one foot in the grave. Vocalist and guitarist Nico Rivers has been there many times as a teenager, escorting folks to their final resting places as other kids simply pocketed spare cash flipping burgers or hawking predatory credit cards. But those summer jobs don’t have the same lyrical potential, do they? The Boston band’s spiraling rock single (released last Friday, October 28) works the graveyard shift, recalling Rivers’ time working in cemeteries to unearth reflections on mortality. “Shakin’ off the dirt of another stranger’s grave / Another one down / Another six to lay,” he sings alongside fellow vocalist Emily Graham-Handley. And you thought dealing with hangry Burger King customers was a downer. Dig “Fortune Teller” below.
