Chainlacing’s cover of ‘Girl, so confusing’ just makes sense

Well, honestly, we were speechless when we woke up to Chainlacing’s rendition of “Girl, so confusing” last week (November 28). Pop’s hatchet burial of the decade — orchestrated by Charli XCX and Lorde — was a whip-smart document of mixed signals and mended relationships when it debuted last year as part of Charli’s BRAT rollout, and the song sounds just as fresh when filtered through Chainlacing’s dreamy “gloomgaze” this winter.

The cover from the New Hampshire band appears on a new compilation benefitting Science Club For Girls, a nonprofit that “fosters excitement, confidence, and literacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities.” Some other familiar names on the album include Sailor Down, Linnea’s Garden, TIFFY, Thrust Club, and Sapling.

Using one of pop’s premier collabs — spearheaded by two women — to create a more accessible gateway to the world of STEM? That just makes sense.
