We know the year is young because it’s supposedly March or April or October or whenever, but Surf Curse has come in strong with the best opening line of any song so far in the Double-2s. It’s from the Los Angeles band’s new single “Sugar,” out this week, and it’s a warm hug of casual realness: “I look like shit, but I feel even worse.” We could end the post right there, and life will go on just as planned, but we’ll also not that this cruising guitar-pop number is the first taste of Surf Curse’s forthcoming fourth album, due out later this year. In the meantime, relate hard to the lyrics, pour a nice drink, and vibe out to the “Sugar” video, a late-night talk show-themed affair directed by principal members Nick Rattigan and Jacob Rubeck.
