Look, we’ll be real with you: There are a lot of great shows happening tonight. But there’s only one show going down with a band called Tropical Fuck Storm, and it descends on Great Scott in Allston this evening (September 19). The Australian band are in a similar position to that of Diarrhea Planet a few years back: Draw curiosity through a band name that jumps off the page, then secure fandom not simply through a moniker but by the music itself. For Tropical Fuck Storm, it’s the surreal weirdo-pop that comes through in colorful jolts of art-punk and underground psych. Yesterday, they debuted a new video for “The Happiest Guy Around”, which they say is “a song about humankind’s uniquely self-immolating propensity to bear a grudge”, and that’s a pretty good starting point.
