Photo Gallery: Chromatics, Desire, In Mirrors live in Boston

Ben Stas for Vanyaland

Editor's Note: Boston's Theatre District was awash in neon noir Friday night (May 17) as Chromatics brought their long-awaited Double Exposure to Royale. We may not be getting Dear Tommy anytime soon, but ringleader Johnny Jewel did treat us to a wide spectrum of sounds from his Italians Do It Better label extraordinaire, with most of everything we heard glistening from the speakers available to purchase in a massive neon-lit merch bunker. Jewel's efforts with Chromatics are well celebrated, and on this night we were able to look deeper into his brilliant creative vision through cinematic sets from Vancouver duo In Mirrors and Montreal-based Desire, who delivered the greatest thrill of the early evening by pairing a cover of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" with their magnetic Drive hit "Under Your Spell", which remains one of the greatest bits of electronic-pop of the last 15 years. Our heads are still spinning from this one, but Ben Stas kept his on straight long enough to capture visuals from the entire evening; flip through his full set, in reverse order of appearance, below.
