Boston’s Theatre District was a scene of whipping hair and assaulted eardrums Wednesday night (April 3) as the spring’s most formidable three-headed monster of a metal tour touched down at Royale. Belgian five-piece Amenra opened the proceedings with their ominous post-sludge, turning on a dime from whisper quietness to jet engine roar, before Canadian thrash vets Voivod tore through an hour of gleeful, hammer-down intensity. Oregonian trio Yob, who Vanyaland interviewed last year, rounded out the night with their earthshaking sludge-doom. Truly an evening (and a tour) with a little something for every connoisseur of heaviness.
