Violet Nox deliver a noisy knockout on experimental new EP ‘Twin Flame’

Even with their new EP dropping via UK’s Sleep FUSE Records, Violet Nox have their “hypnotic sonic” tendencies rooted in Boston. The quartet’s new opus Twin Flame spans only three songs — two lengthy ambient experiments and one remix — but still makes for a poised, noisy knockout. Special help comes from fellow Boston band Miss Geo, who reworked “Lamb on the Moon,” an older Violet Nox tune, for the EP. “I love electronic, trance, dub groove music. I was thinking about how we could use this kind of sound/beats in our writing,” says vocalist Dez DeCarlo. “‘Swan Pond’ and ‘Axa’ both came together quickly. They were recorded in just a couple takes. ‘Swan Pond’ takes your mind to a dreamy, space-y place far away. ‘AxA’ is on fire! The songs break all the rules with sustain, delay, dirty noise, feedback, looping, reverb, haunting vocals, driving bass lines, and drum beats.” It all adds up to quite the sonic cocktail.
