Yumi Zouma perfect their musical monochrome on ‘EP III’

There’s something about Yumi Zouma’s song “In Camera” that calls to mind the depth of Yves Klien’s painting Blue Monochrome. Maybe it’s the shades of ultramarine tucked into the accompanying video and artwork; maybe it’s the overall simplicity of the tune that somehow still comes off as brilliantly expansive. But there’s one thing for certain that they share, and that’s undeniable and unexpected depth. The tune hails from the group’s forthcoming EP III, completing their trio of EPs today (September 28) via Cascine.

“We’ve completed our EP family,” the band shares of the new release. “It’s the little sibling none of us had growing up and none of us knew we could love so much.”

Consisting of four new spirited alt-pop tracks, the EP ebbs and flows across country and genre lines, the result of sending song mixes between New Zealand, London, and New York like intercontinental ping pong.

“This EP, both in its material and how it was written and recorded, feels really close to EP I & II,” Yumi Zouma note. “Spread again between three countries, bouncing endless revisions of a song until it’s right, falling asleep on FaceTime trying to write lyrics together and the exhilaration of waking up to NEW SONG VERSION 5 — it threw us back to how we worked on material when we thought no one would ever listen.”

Here’s your chance to prove them wrong: tune into the the four new tunes below.
