Lake Street Dive announce new album, single, and tour dates

When a band kicks off their tour in support of a long-anticipated album, it’s only polite to start things off in their hometown or save it for the grand finale. And Lake Street Dive, for one, have never lacked good manners.

The Boston-born folk-jazz fusion group today announced the release of their forthcoming album Free Yourself Up, out May 4 via Nonesuch Records, as well as their summer 2018 tour, which kicks off in Cambridge at The Sinclair on the day of the record’s release (tickets go on sale this Friday). The May 4 show is followed by a concert in Turners Falls, Massachusetts on May 5, as well as the band’s already-announced appearance at Levitate Festival on July 8.

In addition to their tour and album announcements today, Lake Street Dive also dropped their first single from the album, “Good Kisser,” and a video of their live performance of the track — which, for the record, sound almost exactly the same, a nod to singer Rachael Price’s infectious vocal chops.

“This album is based in the realities in our time,” bassist Bridget Kearney notes, “which have inevitably become part of everyone’s daily life. It’s something you think about and obsess over — and write songs about. Free Yourself Up is about empowering yourself, emboldening yourself, no matter what’s going wrong.”
